Lucas Nicewander

Bio: Lucas received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech where he was an undergraduate research assistant at WERL. He decided to pursue a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering on the non-thesis track, where he contributes to research on thermochemical energy storage. Lucas is also a Graduate Teaching Assistant for ME 3057 (Experimental Methodology). When not in the lab or classroom, Lucas enjoys playing basketball, cooking, and playing video games.

John Huang

Bio: John received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2021. He conducted research in the Scalable Thermal Engineering Lab (STEEL), where he worked on characterizing organic thermoelectric fibers for energy harvesting. Currently he is pursuing his M.S in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, where his research is focused on designing a flow-based thermal separator for solar desalination.

Yongsong Huang

Bio: Yongsong is an undergraduate student majoring in mechanical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently, his research is focused on the wood-based structural and thermal insulation materials for buildings. In his free time, Yongsong likes listening to music, planning trips, and watching movies.

Carlos Collado

Bio: Carlos is an undergraduate student majoring in Industrial Technologies Engineering at the University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain. In Fall 2021, Carlos started an exchange program at Georgia Tech and joined WERL in the Spring of 2022. His research focused on the design and sizing of a solar-thermal desalination system based on forward osmosis. In his free time, Carlos enjoys listening to music, learning about the world, and planning trips.

Tyler Keener

Bio: Ty is an undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech. Prior to this, he spent six years in the United States Navy working on emergency diesel generators. In Summer 2022, Ty participated in the Research Experience for Student Veterans in Advanced Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship (REVAMP) REU program at Georgia Tech. This program is designed for veteran students and underrepresented minority students in STEM fields to learn about and experience research and entrepreneurship. Through this program, Ty’s research at WERL focused on wood-based composites as structural and thermal insulation in buildings.
