  • 09/2024: Dr. Menon attends the BES Earthshots Summit to present a poster on the thermo-chemo-mechanics of thermal energy storage. Dr. Menon also presents a talk on thermal brine concentration at the 18th UK National Heat Transfer Conference.

  • 08/2024: Congratulations to Madeline Morrell on being selected for the prestigious Innovation in Buildings (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship (2024 cohort)! This fellowship is awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Technologies Office (BTO) to perform research that supports building decarbonization.

  • 08/2024: Welcome Taekyu Kim and Sadie Flagg to WERL as new graduate students. Sadie will be co-advised by Dr. Matthew McDowell.

  • 08/2024: WERL is excited to be a part of the Energy Earthshot Research Center (EERC) led by NREL that will focus on Degradation Reactions in Electrothermal Energy Storage (DEGREES). We hosted Dr. Judith Vidal and Dr. Katie Jungjohann from NREL for a site visit at Georgia Tech and had a lot of good discussion on the project!
  • 07/2024: WERL has a group retreat – we hike the East Palisades trail and then enjoy a boat ride on Lake Allatoona. We discuss climate change mitigation/adaption technologies.
  • 07/2024: Nadia and Dr. Menon visit the Novelis aluminum manufacturing plant in Oswego, NY to learn more about the recycling process and develop technology solutions to improve energy efficiency.
  • 07/2024: Erik, Walter, Jordan, and Preston present their work at the ASME-SHTC/ES Conference in Anaheim, CA.
  • 05/2024: Welcome Nadia Zaleski to WERL as a new graduate student.

  • 04/2024: WERL has been selected to lead a $2.4 Million research project funded by the DOE’s Building Technologies Office! We look forward to collaborating with Dr. Srinivas Garimella at Georgia Tech, as well as with NREL, GTI Energy, and Carrier on this project.

  • 04/2024: Congratulations to Dr. Menon for being recognized with the Outstanding Junior Faculty Award from Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech!

  • 04/2024: Welcome Michael Adams to WERL as our first postdoc in the group.

  • 11/2023: Mahfouz and Jordan present their work at the AIChE Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL.
  • 10/2023: WERL has been selected to lead a $3 Million research project funded by the DOE’s Office of Basic Energy Science as part of the Energy Earthshots Initiative! We look forward to collaborating with Dr. Matthew McDowell and Dr. Claudio Di Leo at Georgia Tech, as well as with Dr. Jeffrey Urban at Berkeley Lab on this project.

  • 10/2023: Dr. Menon presents at the 9th Arab-American Frontiers Symposium in Doha, Qatar.

  • 09/2023: WERL has a group retreat at Red Top Mountain state park. We brainstorm new ideas, cook meals together, and do some hikes and water activities!

  • 07/2023: Congratulations to Dr. Menon for winning the ASME-Pi Tau Sigma Gold Medal! The award was given at the ASME-ES Conference in Washington D.C., where Erik, Walter, and Jordan presented their work.
